Understanding ASAM

Indiana is in the process of revising the administrative rules for addiction services. One of the new additions will be that the rules will be structured around the ASAM Criteria.  ASAM stands for American Society of Addiction Medicine, https://www.asam.org/resources/the-asam-criteria. The new rules will include the ASAM Levels of Care and their support systems, therapies and staffing. Click here to learn more about becoming an ASAM designated provider.

Future Trainings and Webinars

  • ASAM Training - Learn about ASAM Levels of Care Trainings to be held by DMHA in 2018.
  • Motivational Interviewing - Motivational Interviewing is a counseling approach that focuses on empowering consumers to make positive decisions.  The approach upholds four principles— expressing empathy and avoiding arguing, developing discrepancy, rolling with resistance, and supporting self-efficacy. Trainings to be held by DMHA in 2018.
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy Training - The Division of Mental Health and Addiction is conducting training on "Integrating DBT with the twelve steps". There will be three two day sessions held at various locations around the state in the first quarter of 2018. For more information regarding the training click here. Parking, lodging and meals for each session will be on your own.
