Joel D. McGormley
General Counsel
As general counsel since 2021, Joel McGormley leads the legal division comprised of nearly 400 attorneys and support staff. Before joining DCS, McGormley spent eight years with the National Collegiate Athletic Association as managing director of the Office of Committees on Infractions. Prior to that, he spent 12 years in the Michigan attorney general’s office, moving from staff attorney handling social welfare and child welfare litigation to division chief of the criminal appellate division.
