Newton County is a Step Ahead

Diane Gonczy

The Step Ahead, Indiana Collaboration Project was founded in 1991 with the purpose of strengthening our families by identifying the needs of the local communities and utilizing state funding to provide programs to fill those needs. Throughout the years, Step Ahead Councils have undergone some major transformations and the Newton County Step Ahead Council remains an active part of our local community.

Council Coordinator, Diane Gonczy, is frequently referred to as “Our Fearless Leader” because of her personal convictions. She cares deeply about our community and our children. She is willing to tackle any and all projects to benefit the community with her excellent problem solving skills. Diane is a resident of Newton County and lives in Morocco, Indiana.

Since becoming the Newton County Step Ahead Coordinator in 2006, she has put the Council Mission (to improve the quality of life for Newton County residents) into action.

Newton County Step Ahead accolades:

  •  Received the Healthy Conflict Resolution (Anti-Bully Grant for 2014)
  • Newton County Community Foundation Non-Profit of the Year for 2013
  • Healthy & Wellness Impact Grant for 2007
  • Collaborated with local agencies to bring national speakers Naomi Haines-Griffith (co-author of The Unkindest Cut: The Emotional Maltreatment of Children) and Barbara Coloros (author of The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander) to speak on bullying.

Diane has left her mark on the Newton County community and through her efforts has made it a better place to live by putting us a Step Ahead.

Diane and her husband, Robert, have been married for 14 years and are the proud parents of two children: Gabe (13) and Garrett (11). In her spare time, Diane loves to spend time with her family, travel and is an avid reader. Diane is a member of the Coalition for a Drug Free Newton County, Newton County Child Protection and Prevent Child Abuse Teams, Local Eli Lilly Scholarship Committee, Newton County Purdue Extension Board, Healthy Families Advisory Board, Phi Theta Kappa Society and Morocco Projects Unlimited.
