Lake County judicial applicant interviews February 21

On Friday, February 21, the Lake County Judicial Nominating Commission will meet to conduct interviews of 5 applicants for an upcoming Lake County trial court judicial position in the Civil Division. The interviews will be held at Lake County Board of Commissioners, Third Floor of Building A, Lake County Government Center, 2293 N. Main Street, Crown Point, IN 46307. The meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m. (Central). Proceedings are open to the public with decorum rules in place.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, February 21 (all times listed below are Central and approximate)
11:00 a.m. - Call to Order
11:05 a.m. - 11:20 a.m. – Magistrate Shaun Olsen
11:20 a.m. - 11:35 a.m. – Natasha Ivancevich
11:35 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. – Referee Daniel Burke, Jr.
11:50 a.m. - 12:05 p.m. – Angela Marie Jones
12:05 p.m. - 12:20 p.m. – Magistrate Katherine Garza

After all interviews have concluded, the commission, which is chaired by Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa, will deliberate to consider applications. The commission considers applicants' legal education, writings, public service, reputation in the practice of law, and other pertinent information. The commission vote is held following deliberations, both of which are held publicly.

According to Indiana law, the commission is required to submit to the Governor “the five most highly qualified candidates from among all those eligible individuals considered” for appointment when a vacancy arises. Details on the commission, including membership, are online.
