Students should be selected from your agency who are specifically assigned to combating the impaired driver. Students are required to have previous training in SFSTs consistent with NHTSA standards. Additionally, students should possess a high level of proficiency and an active interest in instructing other officers in becoming proficient in the application of SFSTs. Students must have completed the Basic Standardized Field Sobriety Course prior to be able to attend the instructor course. A proficiency performance exam will be administered on the first day of the course.
Note: To maintain our good standing with NHTSA, we comply with their standards for match contribution. For this, we use state funded projects including SFST Instructor Development Courses for Match. Following completion of training each student is required to submit a paystub for documentation purposes.
