Honoring Indiana's Drug Recognition Experts
Drug Recognition Experts (DREs) play an instrumental role in keeping Indiana's roads and communities safe. DREs receive specialized training to recognize impairment in drivers under the influence of drugs. Because of their training, they are often called upon by law enforcement to assist with traffic stops with the goal of keeping impaired drivers off the road.
To recognize this select group of officers, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute created the Indiana Drug Recognition Expert Awards Program in 2016. Every year, officers are invited to attend a ceremony, during which the following five awards are presented.
