Wild Birds

Wild birds include feeder birds and wild waterfowl (fowl that normally swim such as ducks and geese).

If you see 5 or more dead wild birds in the same area, call the Indiana Department of Natural Resources at: 812-334-1137 or email dfwinput@dnr.in.gov

Wild Waterfowl & Migratory Game Birds

Every year thousands of wild waterfowl are banded and tracked by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in collaboration with state waterfowl managers. For more information on waterfowl banding go to: www.fws.gov/birds/surveys-and-data/bird-banding.php

Biosecurity for Wild Birds

Wild migratory waterfowl are known to be carriers of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus. Waterfowl shed the virus in their feces, but do not become ill with the virus.
