Northern Indiana Highlights

LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra

Through excellence in live orchestral performance, the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra moves people to embrace new experiences, connect with culture, enrich our lives, and build our community towards a bright and musical future together.

The LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra (LCSO) primarily presents orchestra concerts featuring full orchestras and small ensembles. Their annual season consists of a four subscription concert series, Hoosier Star, Holiday at the Pops, three full orchestra education concerts, and between 1-3 concerts in the summer. During their 50th anniversary season this past year, they were able to provide over 20 small ensemble performances in both public and educational settings.

What began as a small community orchestra is now a vibrant, semi-professional orchestra with 60 musicians who provide music to audiences across seven counties. In addition to their concerts and performances, they offer a range of education and outreach programs including:

  • New Generations Initiative
  • Student Apprenticeships
  • Drayton Family Education Concerts
  • Drew’s Gift of Music

Fort Wayne Cinema Center

Cinema Center, Fort Wayne’s center for film, provides unique opportunities to explore our world through the art of film.

Cinema Center presents independent, foreign, and documentary films to audiences in Northeast Indiana. However, they do so much more than simply show movies. They host conversations, engage artists, and use film as a source of inspiration for creative interactions. Additionally, they bring films to Fort Wayne that audiences would not otherwise have access to, by showing films that are not played at any other theater in the area.

Their role in Fort Wayne is to build connections and start conversations. They do this through the murals, photographs, sculptures, and paintings inside their building alongside creative independent films.

Art 4

As South Bend’s only professional musical theater company, Art 4 challenges their audiences to immerse themselves in contemporary works enriched with universal themes reflective of the human condition. Art 4 ignites the soul through expressive storytelling and creates authentic conversation to navigate, together, our complex world.

Art 4 actively shapes South Bend’s cultural landscape by cultivating innovative artistic experiences and paving pathways to professionalism for emerging artists. They operate with the goal of producing better places to live, supporting jobs, generating revenue, and driving tourism through the arts.

This organization produces three to four high-quality and fully stages musical theater productions each year, where every performer is compensated for their contributions. Art 4 maintains strong partnerships with local artists and businesses including the St. Joseph County Public Library, Leighton Auditorium, and the City of South Bend.

Art 4’s work provides the St. Joseph community with access to enriching, thought-provoking, and emotionally engaging works of art, fostering local artists in the process, providing them a paid outlet to express their craft. Communities with thriving arts offerings are time and again proven to result in higher levels of community engagement, less crime, better test scores for students, and a more culturally empathetic citizenry. Art 4 is a major player in cultivating a vibrant arts scene throughout Northern Indiana.
