Indiana Bicentennial Medal Design Competition

Indiana will celebrate its 200th anniversary of statehood in 2016. To honor this historic anniversary, the State will release a commemorative collector medal. The Indiana Bicentennial Commission, assisted by the staff of the Indiana Arts Commission, seeks an artist to create the obverse design (heads) for the Indiana Bicentennial commemorative medal. The work will be reflective of Indiana’s 200 years of history. The State Seal will be represented on the reverse of the medal.
 
The winning artist will receive a $5,000 cash award for their design!

IAC Approves Cultural District Designation for Madison

During its March 20, 2015 Quarterly Business Meeting in Fort Wayne, the Commission accepted the proposal from the Madison Area Arts Alliance and the City of Madison. 

“Madison’s downtown vibrancy combined with their infectious enthusiasm and rich  cultural history make them a natural fit for our program,” said Paige Sharp,  Director of programs for the Arts Commission. “We couldn’t be more pleased for them to receive this designation.”  Read the official press release here.

2015 Poetry Out Loud State Finals

Poetry Out Loud State Champion Emma Libersky

A blanket of snow couldn’t stifle the spirit and enthusiasm of the Poetry Out Loud state finals Saturday, February 21, 2015 at the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Central Branch. Contestants from around the state braved the snow and cold to compete in this, the 10th anniversary of the poetry recitation event.

Plymouth High School student Emma Libersky claimed her third consecutive title as Poetry Out Loud state champion. First runner-up was Kelsey Anderson, Eastern Greene High School, Bloomfield, and Chinyelu Mwaafrika, Todd Academy, Indianapolis was second runner-up.

Commission awards over $2.6M in FY2015 grants

At the June 20 Quarterly Business Meeting, the Indiana Arts Commission approved over $2.6 million in FY2015 grants to arts organizations and individual artists across the state. Read more.
