[r26] Rep. Truitt presents at annual Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission meeting
Start Date: 6/12/2014Start Time: 12:00 AM
End Date: 6/12/2014
Entry Description
STATEHOUSE- State Representative Randy Truitt (West Lafayette) traveled aboard Amtrak Southwest Chief service from Chicago to Kansas City to attend the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission (MIPRC) annual meeting. Currently, Rep. Truitt serves as chairman of MIPRC’s sub-committee on the Importance of Rail Suppliers to the Midwest’s Economy and will be presenting in Kansas City.

“I have always been an advocate for rail services in Indiana and the Midwest for many different reasons, but most importantly for the resources it brings into our area,” said Rep. Truitt. “While traveling from Chicago to Kansas City I will be attending meetings and presentations aboard the train to learn more about Amtrak’s long-distance services and how we can expand them.”

According to the MIPRC website, the organization brings together state leaders from across the region to advocate for passenger rail improvements. Formed in 2000, MIPRC’s current members include Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Rep. Truitt will be presenting during the MIPRC’s annual meeting this week. The presentation will cover what the commission is currently doing to help highlight the important impact of rail suppliers on the economy of the Midwest and looking at new ways to highlight this to states.

“During the presentation I will speak on the economic impact rail services have on each of the Midwestern states. I will also highlight new equipment that will be coming in the future and discuss the broad impact that rail suppliers have on not only Indiana, but the entire Midwest,” said Rep. Truitt. “We must continue to work to help states understand the importance of passenger rail including short and long distance rail services. Also, we must work with the federal government to help build new vibrant passenger rail lines in order to continue fostering economic development in the Midwest.”
