Hoosier farmers recognized for achievements

STATEHOUSE — State Representative Dave Ober (R-Albion) congratulates Arthur L. Troyer of Noble County for receiving the Hoosier Homestead Award. Rep. Ober joined Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann and Agriculture Director Ted McKinney at the Indiana Statehouse on Thursday to present the award.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes families with farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. The Troyer Farm has been in operation since 1910. Located in LaOtto, Ind., the Troyer Farm was recognized for their hard work and commitment to agriculture.

“Indiana has a strong, rich agricultural heritage,” said Rep. Ober. “This family is a leading example of agricultural growth in Indiana, and I am proud to have such a successful farm in our community.”

The program began in 1976 to acknowledge the contributions these families have made to Indiana agriculture. More than 5,000 farms have been recognized since the program was established.

Two awards ceremonies are held each year, in the spring and summer, to commemorate the achievements of the many outstanding Hoosier farmers across the state.

“The Troyer farm serves as an example of what perseverance, dedication and a great work ethic can accomplish,” said Rep. Ober. “I am pleased that the Troyer Farm received this recognition for their hard work, and I thank them for their contribution to our Hoosier heritage.”
