[DCS] DCS Appoints Karen Blessinger Director in Madison County

ANDERSON, Ind. (April 10, 2014)The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) announced today Karen Blessinger has been appointed the office director for the Indiana Department of Child Services, Madison County office. In her new role Blessinger will set goals and objectives for child welfare management helping to ensure children are protected from abuse or neglect. In addition, she’ll oversee 58 employees which includes family case managers, supervisors and clerical staff. She’ll also handle general office operations. 


“Karen brings a wealth of experience with her and we’re pleased to have her take the reins for Madison County,” said Jane Bisbee, DCS’ Deputy Director of Field Operations. “Her experience working with juveniles and as a DCS family case manager and supervisor will be invaluable to her as she continues to help strengthen families.”


A life-long resident of central Indiana, Blessinger was born in Muncie, grew up in New Castle and currently resides there. She began her career with Indiana State Government in 2000 as a youth services officer at the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility where she worked with juvenile males ages 12 to 21. In 2001 she transferred to the State’s Division of Family and Children to work as a public assistance caseworker. Returning to the Pendleton Correctional Facility in 2004, she spent the next two years as a psychiatric social services specialist.


She took a job as a family case manager for the Delaware County office of the Indiana Department of Child Services in 2006. In 2008 she was promoted to family case manager supervisor in Henry County’s DCS office where she remained until taking the director position in Madison County.


Blessinger has Bachelor of Science degrees in criminal justice/criminology and psychology from Ball State University. She expects to complete her Masters degree in social work from Indiana University next month.


She began her new duties April 7.
