[SOS] Secretary Lawson reminds Hoosiers voter registration ends today, absentee voting starts tomorrow

Entry Description

Review ‘Who’s On Your Ballot?’ at

INDIANAPOLIS (April 7, 2014)—Indiana Secretary of State Connie Lawson is reminding Hoosiers that voter registration ends today and absentee voting starts tomorrow. Hoosiers should visit to verify, update or start a voter registration. Starting tomorrow, April 8, any eligible voter can cast an absentee ballot in-person at their county clerk’s office or request an absentee ballot by mail.

Voters who chose to vote absentee in-person have until noon on May 5, the day before the primary election, to cast their ballot. Voters who choose to vote by mail may request an absentee ballot online at or from their county clerk’s office. Request for absentee ballots by mail must be delivered by April 28.

“No excuse absentee voting and vote centers are giving Hoosiers more options when casting their ballots and many are taking advantage of the opportunity,” said Secretary Lawson. “In 2012, we saw 120,000 voters cast absentee ballots. I’m hoping Hoosiers continue to take advantage of this option this year.

“We’ve also seen the number of counties opting to move to the vote center model rise. During the May 2012 election, seven counties used vote centers and 16 are using the option in the upcoming election. As voters and county election officials learn more about the costs savings and convenience this modern alternative to traditional precinct voting provides, I think more counties will move to this method.”

Military families are encouraged to remind those serving overseas to request an absentee ballot. Secretary Lawson is also announcing that all ballots requested by Indiana soldiers through the MOVE Act have been sent.

Hoosier voters can go to to look up which candidates will be on their ballot. Voters enter their county of residence, name and date of birth. ‘Who’s On Your Ballot?’ will list the offices, candidates’ names and party just as it will be listed on Election Day.

“I encourage all Hoosier voters to visit to educate themselves on who they’ll be voting for and where they’ll be voting,” said Secretary Lawson. “An informed electorate is the key to a successful democracy so I encourage all voters to take advantage of this tool.”

Hoosiers who are not sure if they are registered can confirm their registration online at Voters may also request an absentee ballot and verify their polling location on
