Entry Description

It has been a rough, dangerous winter so far, and all our road crews deserve the utmost gratitude. Even with many layers of ice and record-breaking amounts of snow, our road crews have worked around the clock to keep our streets clear and our communities safe.

As every corner of the state has battled the treacherous conditions, I am proud to say that the devoted employees from Noble County worked through these exceptionally difficult circumstances to keep our citizens out of harm’s way. Our highway maintenance workers have battled one of the hardest winters Indiana has seen in, ensuring the safety of those who had to get out during the bad weather.

The Indiana Department of Transportation estimated that their plow trucks have logged more than 4 million miles this winter and distributed more than 265,000 tons of granular salt and 2.5 million gallons of salt brine on Hoosier highways. These estimations do not include the miles plowed or salt distributed by city and county operations, which I’m sure would raise these statistics significantly.

I greatly appreciate all that our road crews have done for our community. Please continue to have patience when traveling and remember that drivers also have an integral role in keeping roads open and safe for other travelers.

Even though it looks like warmer weather could be headed our way, we still have more than a month of winter, and in Indiana, who knows what it will bring. I have no doubt that our road crews will continue their excellent services to our community, and just remember that spring will eventually come.

State Rep. Dave Ober
