Entry Description
STATEHOUSE – The General Motors Bedford Powertrain plant and its employees were honored today during the legislative session at the Indiana Statehouse. House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 16, authored by State Rep. Eric Koch (R-Bedford), recognized the "Center of Expertise" designation the plant received from General Motors.

“For generations, this plant has been the economic anchor of our community,” Rep. Koch said before the House of Representatives today. “Once employing over 1,500 people, today the plant employs 612 hourly and salaried workers using the latest in industrial technology. Like many of your communities, ours was hit hard in the 2008 recession, and the plant went through some challenging times. As the automotive industry changed, the plant and its employees have had to adapt. Through their dedication and hard work, the employees have made this plant one of the leading aluminum die casting and semi-permanent mold operation facilities in the world.”

The “Center of Expertise” designation was awarded to the Bedford Powertrain plant for its leadership in aluminum die casting and semi-permanent mold operation facilities.

Those present for the resolution and representing the plant were:

Eric Gonzales, Plant Manager
Craig Jones, Personnel Director
Elisha Huddleston, Maintenance Planner
Don McAtee, Quality Engineer-Die Cast
Kent Gouty, Quality Engineer-Semi Permanent Mold

“On behalf of local UAW 440, IBEW 16 and the rest of the General Motors Bedford team, we are proud to accept this resolution,” said Plant Manager Eric Gonzales.

HCR 16 was sponsored in the Senate by State Sen. Brent Steele (R-Bedford).

Rep. Koch serves all or parts of Brown, Lawrence, Monroe, Jackson and Johnson counties.
