The governor is the chief executive for the State of Indiana. This office is responsible for many of the day to day operations of the state. -
The ornate designs on the ceiling are original to the building. The chandeliers were installed in the 1930s. -
The conference table was built by prison laborers at Indiana Westville Correction Center using wood milled from trees removed from the prison property. It was presented to Governor Daniels on June29, 2007. It is 6’ wide and 16’ long and weighs 900 pounds. -
The top of the governor’s desk is made from teakwood taken from the deck of the USS Indiana when it was decommissioned in 1962. The ship served during World War II. -
The governor’s marble fireplace is the most ornate in the State House. Although the building has always been steam heated, the fireplace helped warm the room. Fireplaces in the building are no longer in use.
